It is a spin-off of the Fast & Furious series set between The Fate of Furious 2017 and F9 2021.
The film features Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham appearing in the main role as Luke Hobbs and Deckard Shaw, as well as Idris Elba, Vanessa Kirby, Eiza González, Cliff Curtis and Helen Mirren.The story tracks the unexpected combination of main characters as they join up with Shaw's sister (Kirby) to battle a cyber-enhanced criminal (Elba) who is attacking the planet with a lethal virus.
Series star and producer Vin Diesel first confirmed in 2015 that future spin-offs were in the early stages of production, and Hobbs & Shaw was publicly revealed in October 2017. Leitch signed up to air in April 2018, and both Kirby and Elba joined the cast in July. The shooting began in September and continued until January 2019, mainly in London and Glasgow.
Hobbs & Shaw opened at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood on July 13, 2019, was theatrically released in the United States on August 2, 2019, and has earned over $760 million worldwide. The film received positive feedback from reviewers, including appreciation for Johnson and Statham's action scenes and performances.
